Description: The Potomac River Fisheries Commission (PRFC) is looking to hire a full time position to lead administrative and science related activities of the PRFC. Job duties: The PRFC Chief Fisheries Science and Administrative Officer supports the PRFC’s Executive Secretary in his responsibility to oversee the administration of the agency, and fulfill the agency’s mission to conserve and improve the valuable fishery resources of the tidal Potomac River. In the absence of the Executive Secretary, this position has the responsibility to oversee administration and mission critical operations for the agency. This position also assumes leadership responsibility. Apart from this role, the Fisheries Science and Administrative Officer has the responsibility as the lead science and technology staffer, functioning as biological and technical liaison for PRFC to the Atlantic State Marine Fisheries Commission, EPA-NOAA Chesapeake Bay Program, Chesapeake Bay Stock Assessment Committee, and other science-based groups. The Fisheries Science and Administrative Officer also has administrative oversight for PRFC's three advisory committees and PRFC's oyster programs, including logistical and financial oversight. The Fisheries Science and Administrative Officer oversees fixed gear fishery charting, and material logistics coordination for PRFC's limited entry striped bass and crab fisheries. The Fisheries Science and Administrative Officer is also part of the staff team that interfaces with PRFC customers at the PRFC office. Fiscal responsibilities include assistance with budget preparation and review, front desk financial transactions, posting daily financial transactions, and daily bank deposits, all consistent with separation of duty requirements. The Fisheries Science and Administrative Officer also participates in other work as needed
Minimum Qualifications: The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in fisheries science or a related field plus two years of experience in fisheries management or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications: A Master Degree in Fisheries Management or Science or a related field.
