Blue Crab Advisory Committee Meeting

Colonial Beach, VA — The Potomac River Blue Crab Advisory Committee, which is comprised of private citizens and industry representatives, will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014, in the John T. Parran Hearing Room of the PRFC Office Building, 222 Taylor Street, Colonial Beach, Virginia.

Items on the agenda will include, but may not be limited to: A prioritization exercise for recommendations for a 1 to 5 year planning horizon for the top priorities of the committee. There will be a discussion on how to achieve the remaining 1.9% reduction in female crab harvest by June 30, 2015. The Commission adopted Order 2014-07 at its last Commission meeting held June 12, 2014 which implemented female harvest reductions. However, the reductions only reached a target of 8.9%.

These recommendations developed by this committee will be forwarded to the Potomac River Fisheries Commission for consideration prior to implementation. The next Commission meeting is scheduled for September 12, 2014.

The Potomac River Fisheries Commission coordinates regulations with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) and the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, (DGIF) and with the other Atlantic coastal states through the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC).
